What is Wyrd?

Wyrd is an ancient Anglo-Saxon word meaning fate. In Old English wyrd is a verbal noun formed from the verb weorþan, meaning “to come to pass, to become”. Wyrd has since evolved into our modern “weird,” but lost its more magical meaning.

Who are the Wyrd Sisters?

The Wyrd Sisters are the three ancient pagan goddesses who weave the web of wyrd, or the tapestry of fate. They are also known as the Fates, or the Norns, and they dwell at the roots of the world tree in Norse mythology. The three sisters each have specific roles, one who spins the fiber of our fate, one who weaves the tapestry of our fate into being, and one who cuts the threads of fate.

Working magically with the Wyrd Sisters is an honoring of a magical universal order. It is an honoring of fate, or personal destiny, as well as an assumption of personal responsibility. The fate that lives within you is meant to be activated, molded, and played with. Fate doesn’t just happen to you, it happens with you! May there be joy in the process.
