Description

This Might Hurt Tarot is a modern deck in the Rider-Waite-Smith tradition, created by cartoonist Isabella Rotman.

Keeping time-honored symbolism and imagery, but losing the medieval context, this the This Might Hurt Tarot Deck is designed to be both easy to read and highly relatable. Clothing and scenery are modernized, diversity is embraced, and queerness is lovingly acknowledged.

The cards themselves measure 4.75″x 2.75″ and are printed on high-quality 350 gsm matte art paper. Each card has a holographic gilded edge (choose from black or pearl) to add just a bit of magic.

The deck comes in a solid cardboard box with gold foil and magnetic closure, complete with a guidebook with introduction, card descriptions, and a full page black and white image of each card. This website to serves as a digital guidebook, with card descriptions for every card.

The deck, like most tarot decks, will consist of 22 Major Arcana cards and 56 Minor Arcana cards. All of the court cards, and a few other select Minor Arcana cards, are portraits of real people in Isabella’s life.

Where was this deck made?

“This edition of the This Might Hurt Tarot was printed by Shenzen The Wheel of Fortune Spiritual Art Creation Co., based in Shenzhen, China. The company is owned and was founded by Ivy Feng.” – Isabella Rotman.

I LOVE the This Might Hurt deck! It’s beautiful but the imagery isn’t a distraction, like some decks that feel more like art cards than tarot decks. This deck also strips away the seismic, classism, hetro-normative European elitist inherent in the classic RWS deck without losing the soul of the deck

Lovely deck, really colourful and embracing diversity. It’s a modern deck with knights on motorcycles instead of horses. Cards a little thick and hard to shuffle and 2 cards freak me out a bit, judgement or the wheel of fortune but it’s probably just me! Other than that, it’s gorgeous and I have no regrets! It’s the ideal for a beginner as well! Love it!

Learning to read Tarot has been on my ‘bucket-list’ for many years, but I have never felt a strong enough connection to any deck to let it lead me on such an epic journey. Everything about this deck is simply beautiful….from the wonderful LRT packaging to the silky sound of the cards as they are lightly shuffled. Stunning imagery, breathtaking colours and the most amazing black holographic edging, all contained within the loveliest of decorative boxes. So excited to be starting my journey with this wonderful deck, which I will treasure for always, because there’s something truly magical about finding ‘The One’.

I only received this deck yesterday and I’m already in love with it. The colours are lovely and the images offer a very modern take on the RWS. They feel nice and sturdy in my hands and shuffle well. I couldn’t resist doing some free readings so I could get to know the deck fully. Even the box they come in is incredible. I think this deck will be one of my “go-to”s.

I am picking up my Tarot cards again after a long break. I saw this deck and knew I just had to have it. I get a tingle every time I see them on LRT’s pages and then I remember I OWN this deck.
I chose Holographic Black edges, as I have other gold edged decks (holographic pearl is intriguing), and it suits the deck. The card stock is a bit stiff and the cards have a matt finish, I’m hoping with use they’ll become more supple and easy to handle. The day job has been too full on so I’m still slowly working my way through the cards, getting to know them. They’re beautifully drawn, a mix of witty and touching images.
Very much looking forward to my first full reading with this deck.
