Don’t lose heart – Queen of Cups

The Queen of Cups chose me, today. I recieved inarguably the best tarot reading of my life and besides its genius advice for me (maybe more on that another time), Submerina‘s descriptions and interpretations blew me away and made me look at several cards in an entirely new way. The Queen of Cups was one of these.

Queen of Cups tarot card Anna K Tarot

Queen of Cups, by Anna Klaffinger, from the Anna K Tarot

She writes:

The Queen of Cups is a great source of guidance here: lead with your heart, but don’t lose your heart. This Queen looks to her intuition to make mature, informed decisions from a point of personal power and strength. Just because she is the Queen of emotions, doesn’t mean it isn’t backed by a heaping helping of sensibility and foresight that has been fine-tuned over years of experience. She holds the Ace in her hands – she knows that sometimes you offer the cup and the receiver drinks it all greedily; but sometimes – when you offer it to someone worthy – it is a drink that is shared.

I think it’s this idea of maturity, of the accumulated strength of living life in a completely open, deeply feeling way and learning – thorugh mistakes and successes – who you are, what you want and need, and the kindest ways of achieving that soulful fulfillment.

On her website, Anna Klaffinger describes the Queen too:

A loving encounter with the world and her fellow human beings is of great importance to her; she bears conflicts and quarrel only with difficulties. She needs a lot of time for herself, time in which she can nourish her spiritual and artistic side.

The lady does right, in my opinion :) What a cool person. I think I’d been focusing a lot more on her being wild and free and possibly a little irresponsible…the way we’d all like to be sometimes I guess. And I see this sort of paradoxical narcissism coming out of her outward selflessness… I think I’m giving her too much of a hard time. She’s a flippin’ queen, for heaven’s sale, not a teenager.

I also love what Joan Bunning writes in her tarot course, Learning the Tarot:

In readings, the Queen of Cups asks you to think and feel as she does. For example: Are you aware of the emotional climate? Are you feeling loving? Do you trust your heart? Have you received an intuitive message? Have you been moved by another’s pain?

I really feel like I need a big dose of the Queen of Cups right now. I want her to come and teach me her ways. As autumn grows and I feel that personal new year, recharge, reinspiration thing that comes to me every year when the temperature drops, I’m finding myself wanting to reevaluate, to test myself, to understand how far I’ve come, emotionally, over the past year.

Am I aware of the emotional climate? Do I trust my heart? The Queen of Cups offers me the strength and wisdom to answer yes to these questions. When my confidence wavers, I’ll think of her paddling her feet in the water, wise and strong and understanding, and it will help me to understand how I can give my heart without losing it.

Thanks so much guys!I know what you mean Chloe – I’ve seen her be manipulative too, but Submerina helped me to realise how she attained her status and right now I’m just loving her :)

I always come back to read your text. My reading skills are better than my writing, I swear. Just want to thank you for it. I’m a Queen of Swords receiving this card over and over again about a relationship and your explanation suit very well.
