We made it. To the end of 2017. Together.
I can’t deny I love new year’s eve. Though the solstice would be my winter celebration of choice, there’s something about this day and night that really excites me, fills me with hope.
It’s that collective energy that gets me, the knowledge that a huge number of people around the world are marking an ending, and a beginning. Personally, locally, globally. I take the time to both reflect and look forwards at various points in the year, but at new year’s, I know that many many people are doing the same thing.
Collectively letting go. Collectively welcoming in.
That’s a powerful energy, right? I mean – what if everybody, together, on this night, resolved to speak out for race equality in 2018? What if everybody resolved to love ourselves unconditionally? What if everybody resolved to critique capitalism? What if we resolved to accept our privilege and use it for good? What if everyone who could afford it set up a monthly donation to a grassroots social justice organisation?
We could start a revolution, that’s what.
We could bring the Tower crashing down, usher in the hopeful, peaceful Star, and rebuild, together. In groups, in communities, leaders and followers, people behind screens, individuals, strangers in conversation…all of us.
You don’t have to make some high-falutin’ right-on resolution to be part of this movement. All you have to do is commit to showing up in your own life. Being yourself. Listening to your heart. You don’t have to be ‘better’, or ‘more’, or ‘less’. You do not have to ‘fix’ yourself.
The person that you are is naturally, inherently perfect, magical, wise, strong, abundant, generous, intuitive, beautiful, self-assured, community-spirited, infinitely creative, deeply powerful, and completely whole. There are a thousand reasons why you may not feel all of these things, but I promise you, these qualities are within you. They are already yours, if you want to claim them.
Resolve to allow yourself to simply be, and we’ll have a revolution on our hands.
